ford 8N

Back in '66, my father decided to put my self and my brother to work in the woods. We cut trees to sell to the paper mills in Wisconsin. Problem: getting the wood to a place where a truck could pick it up. Dad bought the 8N from a local farmer and we began using it to pull logs out of the woods. With the wide front end and hydraulic lift the 8N did a good job. We cut wood for several years until my brother and I left home.

Dad continued to use the 8N to collect household firewood and do odd chores around the house. When the grandchildren visited, Dad would hook the tractor to an old trailer and give the kids a ride. The grandkids have fond memories of riding on the trailer behind Grandpa's old tractor!

Rusting rims

The list of parts and repairs is not extensive, but will be expensive. The biggest single issues is replacing the rear tires and rims. The old rims were rusted out, as you can see by this photo. You could literally pull off chunks off the old metal. I replaced both rear rims with used rims and 1 new and 1 used tire so the tractor can now roll around under it's own power.

Many other parts, new or used, will be needed. I have already replaced the battery box, running board hardware, and an exhaust system. One front rim has been replaced and the tire with it. Only 1of the 4 tires would hold air when I brought the tractor home.

Both rear axles seals were leaking grease, which accounts for the black color of the rims. Because of this leakage the brakes didn't work. I have replaced the seals and brakes with new units so the tractor can stop as well as roll.
